When we got there, Elvira was dancing around the room singing Christmas carols, and Paddy had already helped himself to a large piece of Blueberry Pie! Me and my family were quick to join in the fun, and soon everybody was eating, and talking, and singing!
But I couldn’t stop thinking of Santa. The party had already started, and he wasn’t there! Maybe he wouldn’t show up at all? The thought made me really sad. I had so been looking forward to seeing him for real, that I had started to believe he actually would come to the party.
I noticed Paddy was sitting in a corner of the room, looking sad too. I walked over to him, but didn’t know what to say. Paddy said “He’s not coming, is he?”. “Well, we don’t know that. Maybe he just got delayed”, I told him. But it didn’t look like Paddy believed me. “Santa can get presents to everyone in time in one single night, why would he be late for a Christmas party?”, he asked. I didn’t really have an answer to that.
Suddenly the party didn’t feel like much fun at all. But then Elvira showed up in our corner, laughing and twirling. “What’s wrong with you two?”, she asked. “Don’t you like the party?”. I told her we were sad because Santa didn’t show up, but she just laughed at us. “That’s no reason to waste a good party, is it?” she said. “I also hope Santa comes to our party, but I’d rather have fun while I’m waiting”. We realized she did have a point, and tried to join in the fun again.
Then suddenly there was a loud knock on the door! The door opened and in came a large old bear, with a white beard and a red coat. It was Santa! He really came!
“Excuse me for being late, but I had to go back home first to get Mrs. Claus. She loves a good Christmas party!”, he said with a big jolly laugh. In came Mrs. Claus. She was just the sweetest lady! We were so glad they had both came to our party. Elvira announced it was time to dance around the Christmas tree, so Santa and Mrs Claus came with us outside. There, in the middle of the Town Square, was the big Christmas tree. The Toytown Toyband started playing Christmas songs, and we all danced around the tree for hours. We didn’t even notice how cold it was, or that the snow was falling from the sky. We had too much fun to care about that!
Santa and Mrs Claus thanked us for inviting them to the party. They said they had had a wonderful time! I hope we’ll see them again some day. Maybe next Christmas?
As I walked back home to my little house, I felt sad that Christmas was over now. But it was the best Christmas ever! One that I will always remember.
